SUCCESSFUL WINTER CROSSING Dominion Special Service. Waiho Gorge, Sept. 4. ( A winter crossing of Grahams Saddle at the head of Franz Josex Glacier, has been successfully accomgshed’on ski by Frank Alack and Charles Jenson, two C 0 guides, from the Franz Josef GJaciet. The party, on leaving the Glacier Hotel P at Waiho Gorge, traversed the Franz Josef Glacier to Defiance and Aimer huts, and thence across the wonderful snowfields of the glacier six sauare miles m extent, which form one of the finest skiing grounds in the world. Crossing- Graham s Saddle, 8759 feet, the party descended the Rhudolf and Tasman Glacieis to the . Ball hut and thence to the Hermitage. This is the first time this journey has been accomphshe on ski, and it is a very creditable pelformance. The route crosses through the finest mountain and glacier seen ery in the Alps. , Now that the way has been opened no doubt many others . will f o llo ' v ' The party intend returning to Fian: Josef on the West Coast via Copleland Pass.
