FRUIT EXPORT TRADE

CONTROL BOARD ELECTION In accordance with the provisions of the Act governing the constitution of the New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board, two members retire this year. In one case, Mr. A. M. Robertson, of Hastings, the retiring member, has been returned unopposed as representative for Wellington, Hawke's Bay, and Poverty Bay. An election has been rendered necessary by the nomination of three candidates for the Nelson, Marlborough, and Canterbury seat. They are: Mr. T. C. Brash, ot Wellington (the retiring member), Mr. J. Dicker, of Tasman, Nelson; and Mr. A. Gilbert, of Stoke, Nelson. The result of the election, in which every producer exporting 100 cases or more ot 'fruit in a year has one vote, will be declared this evening. .Mr 11. E. Stephens, Loudon representative of the New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board, will leave London for a visit to New Zealand by thc Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s new motor-liner, sailing on September 14. Mr. Stephens is eomiug to New Zealand to discuss with the Control Board matters connected with next season’s fruit shipments. He will return to England after a brief stay in the Dominion. . , , Mr. W. T. Goodwin, of the horticultural division of the Department of Agriculture, who went to the Argentine, Brazil, Canada and the Bnited States on behalf of the Fruit Export Control Board, to investigate the possibilities of extending the market for New Zealand fruit in those countries, will leave San Francisco by the Makura, which is due at Wellington on October 22.
