The cordial relationship between the two countries was symbolised by a joint display of the Union Jack and the Rising Sun and the singing at the opening of the function of the National Anthems, of the two nations. “I am not a trader, but I have a duty to protect trade,” said the Commander in reference to the growth of trade and commerce between New Zealand and Japan. “In my opinion there is a very good. prospect of increasing ■ the trade between us, chiefly due to the changes that are happening in Japan in our way of living. That alteration in mode of living means that we want more wool, we want more meat, and we want more butter. I am glad indeed that an important trade agreement between our two countries has been made at the time of our visit to*New Zealand.
