IMPROVING BUSINESS INCREASE IN REVENUE A large increase in post and telegraph revenue during the quarter ended June 30, 1928, compared with the corresponding period of last year, is disclosed in the return published in last night's Gazette. I’ostal revenue increased by £33,021, and telegraph revenue by £39,614, a total of £72,634. Nearly one-quarter of Die total revenue was collected in the Auckland postal district, the amount being £214.420, compared with £159,933 in the Wellington district, and £128,033 in the Christchurch district. The growing popularity of the longdistance telephone is shown by the fact that the tolls revenue for the Dominion during the June quarter was £103,461, an increase of over £13,000 compared with the corresponding period of last year. At the same time the total revenue from telegrams. £93,216, was over £13,000 less than for the June quarter of 1927. Under the heading telephone exchanges the revenue amounted to £317.809. an increase of over £27,000 over the June quarter of 1927. The total revenue from postages during the- quarter ended June 30, 1925, was £7700 greater than for the corresponding period of last year. In all other branches such as rural delivery fees, private box and bag rents, and money-order and postal note commissions decreases were shown, .with the exception, of “miscellaneous receipts (postal)'.”- chiefly handled by the General Post Office, which increased from £29,052 to £56.162.
