ADVANCE THEATRE BOOKING
Sir, —Having ascertained from the office of His Majesty’s Theatre that the grand circle box plan for Saturday evening's performance would be opened at the earliest at nine o’clock this morning imagine my surprise, being the first in the queue, to find practically all the first row seats booked up. The excuse made was that these were country, bookings. The continued ringing of the telephone from eight o’clock onwards, however, seemed to disprove this explanation, and in any case it .was a poor eycuse. This state of affairs, Sir, is hardly a fair deal to the public, and surely the first to the office should have first choice of any seats. Is the management aware of these prior booicings, or are the staff favouring their personal friends? —I am, etc.. ~ THE EARLY BIRD.
B Wellington, August 2. [The contents of the above letter were 1 referred to the general manager of His Majesty's Theatre, who stated that when 1 tile box plans Were opened to the public only 12 of the 750 scats available had been marked off. These were practically all country bookings. No bookings for ' the plans, he added, were taken by tele- ’ phone during the day, and he was pert fectly satisfied that everything was. right. : He would gladly explain the position in detail to “The Early Bird” if that gen- [ 'tleman cared to call on him at the t theatre.] : i ' ,
