General Nobile and the rest of the Italia’s survivors were enthusiastically welcomed when the train crossed the frontier into the Trentino. Crowds sang Fascist songs and threw flowers in a manner symptomatic of the public’s determination to compensate the survivors for their sufferings and support them in their fight against caluminators. The Prefect of Bolzano conveyed Italy’s greetings on behalf of Signor Mussolini. Verona’s welcome was even more enthusiastic, including greetings on behalf of the Navy.
