Three men collapsed in the streets in Loudon from the heat and died. Sixty girls and men employed at a Newcastle-on-Tyue drapery store were treated at an infirmary for poisoning after drinking lemonade distributed during a sale-time rush. Hundreds fainted at the unveiling of the Bolton War Memorial.
