HALIFAX’ BY-ELECTION
SEAT WON BY LABOUR (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) London, July 14. The Halifax by-election, rendered necessary through the retirement of the Rt. Hon. J. H. Whitley, Speaker of the House of Commons, resulted as follows :-rAlderman Longbottom (Labour) 17,536 Major Barnes (Liberal) 12,585 Major Crossley (Conservative) 10,8'34 At the general election the Hon. M. Whitley was returned unopposed.
