AN ENJOYABLE COMEDY. “Jane,” the well-known comedy,-was' presented to a large audience >n the Concert Chamber by Air. A. S. Warnick on Saturday- evening. The-, performances, which was given in aid of the peace-time activities of the Red Cross, pleased the audience greatly. . , 2. Charles Shackelton, who has been left a large bequest,-with the instructions that he should be married, obtains money fioni his trustee by informing him tk“t he has complied with the terms of the bequest. In time he writes to his trustee, stating that his wife’s extravagance had caused him to becoiqe in need of-a further dole. The trustee writes back to the effect th,u he will come and remonstrate with the woman. Ilcaiising that if he cannot produce a wife to his caller, he may. have to lace a charge of fraud, he-asks his'butler s advice. They decide that somebody must pretend to be the efring woman, and both, unbeknown to each other, set about to obtain her. The • first/ surprise arrives when, in the “governor’s'’ absence, William, the butler, introduces his ‘•find,” and in walks Shakelton, with .his “wife,” whdm he also introduces. Then follow a succession of, incidents which amused the audience great- ‘ Peter Dorrian, who is cast as Shackdton, the* Spendthrift, played his part well, and his subtleness in answering awkward questions was particularly noticeable. A. Stanley Warwick, as William, 'the blundering butler; made the, most of a difficult l>art. Violet Wilson;-in the dual role of housemaid and wife, was a great success. Cedric Gardiner, ay the trustee, acted well. Kitty Keddell, as William's solution of tiie premier predicament,, was also successful. Grace-Henderson, as the masculine Mrs. Piston, and her hen-pecked husbaiid. Francis Hastings,- upset matters Very effectively, and Alary Langdon, as Lucy, Sfiackolton’s fiancee, with Claude, the page (lan Watts) also played their parts well. Entr’acte music was supplied by the Wellington Orphans’ ’ Club Orchestra, under the balo.n; of. Mr. Harold Godipr. .
