TREATMENT OF CANCER PATIENTS Dominion Special Service. Auckland, June 19. On the recommendation of its honorary medical staff, 'the Auckland Hospital Board decided that the method of treating cancer proposed by Mr. R. R. Field should not be adopted at the hospital. After investigating the treatment the medical staff considered that the method was futile and recommended the board not to pursue the matter. At the last meeting of the board permission was given to Mr. Field to demonstrate his methods in the presence of members of the honorary medical staff. His treatment included exposure of the patients to the early morning sun for about three hours, and the administration of potassium in the form of bicarbonate of potash with citric acid. “We cannot expect the medical stair to do something which they do not approve,” said the chairman (Mr W. Wallace). “So far as the public is concerned, I feel that in view of the recommendation of the honorary medical staff, we could not allow the treatment to be carried out at the hospital.”- . “Anything useful that can be discovered by a layman or anyone else will be readily adopted by the medical profession in the fight against disease,” said Dr. Milsom. “We are open to investigate any treatment that might lead to cures.”
