SCOUT NOTES

Sir Robert Baden-Powell the Chief Scout presiding at the .annual meeting of the Council of the Boy Scouts’ Association recently at Imperial Headquarters, read the following telegram from the King, in reply to a message of loyalty sent by the council:—-"In thanking the Headquarters Council for their kind message of loyalty and devotion as patron of the Boy Scouts’ Association, I warmly congratulate all who have co-operated in the development of the splendid work which you initiated Indeed, as your report shows, the association's efforts have not been in vain; the enrolment of millions of the youth of the world inspired by the high and healthy ideals of the movement is in itself a triumphant advance towards the promotion or international brotherhood.—George R. 1,” Wellington Cubmasters met at the beginning of May at the Kuo Min Tang Hall vo form an association of Cubmasters. The Commissioner (Sir Alfred Kobin) was present, and stated that be was pleased that the Cubmasters were getting together to further Wellington Cubbing, and anticipated that the standard would speedily be raised as the result of combined study and practice It was decided to meet on the first Thursday of' each month under the title of the Wellington District Old Wolves Cubmasters. Island Bay Baptist Troop met in strength last Saturday night when 13 Tenderfoots were passed and invested. A flag presented by Airs. Gilchrist was handed over to the troop, after which Scoutmaster McHutchin and A.S.M. B. Halcox received their warrants under the ceremony of Ipise. The District Commissioner. assisted by District Scoutmaster G. Bell. District Treasurer H. Hitchens and S.M, Cook, conducted the ceremonies. A largo gathering of parents and supporters and members of committee were interested spectators. Island Bay No. 1, Berhampore Baptist and St. Cuthbert’s Troops were represented. Hakas and interchange of cheers and goodwill finished a really successful epoch iu the history of this young troop. Last Wednesday the parents and friends of Trinity Troop held their annual meeting. The treasurer was able to report a 'healthy state of finance. The Scoutmaster reported a very successful year tn regard to numbers and the maintenance and tone of the troop. The main feature of troop activities was that of camping and hiking by the boys. Miss Scotter did splendidly while in charge of the pack early in this year, and. while tho committee was sorry to loose her, they were extremely fortunate to secure Miss E. Boxall in her place. Officers and representatives for the ensuing year were elected, the Bov. T. W, Vealie, chaplain, being made chairman and Air. Towns treasurer. The Ist Wellington Rovers commemorated “Atotbcrs’ Day" on Saturday, when they were to be seen in attendance with their mothers at one of the leading theatres. All Rovers were in dress with a white flower pinned to their pocket as an emblem to the one who counts for so much. , The Island Bay No. 1 Troop and Cub Pack have beet: concenrating on badge work during the past few months, and good results may be looked for in this direction. A special feature introduced by the Scoutmaster (Air. Cook) is a series of talks on various Scouting subjects which are proving most interesting to the lads. Games, which go a long way towards helping with the mental and pbystcal development of the boys, have not been forgotten and ample time has been given to this important branch of Scout work The Cnbraistress (Mrs. Wheeler) has a very fine pack,, which has already furnished several promising young Scouts to the troop Recently an open "pound night” was held and parents and friends of the lads were able to see them at work and play. , „ , . St Mark’s Wolf Cub Pack is a growing one The Rev. li’ry and the District Commissioner visited them last Saturday. Air. Cargill is helping temporarily with a fine young leader from. Institute Troop. An Ipise ceremony is to be held by the Kalwarra Troop on Friday, and all interested are cordially invited. The Rovers will meet this Saturday in the Toe H. rooms and any Scouter is welcome. ~ , _ ~, The Terrace Congregational Troop will hold an Ipise ceremony on Alay 22 Forward notes to Rover A. Meachem. Raumal, Humber Street, Island Bay. on or before Monday of each week.
