PRINCE CAROL

FINAL APPEAL TO HOME SECRETARY

LITTLE CHANCE OF SUCCESS

DEPARTURE DEFERRED OWING TO COLD (United Press Association. —Ey Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, Maj' 11. Prince Carol, of Rumania, who has been requested to leave the country, has made a final appeal to the Home Secretary. The appeal was made after the Prince had taken the advice of Sir Henry Slesser and Sir Patrick Hastings, eminent barristers, who, however, it is understood, advised him that the appeal had little chance of success. Meanwhile, Prince Carol has contracted a chill. It is considered that he may onlj’ be able to defer his departure on this account. CONFINED TO BED STILL MANSION.GUARDED BY POLICE (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) London, May 11. Carol is improving, though he will be confined to bed for a few days. A strong police guard outside the mansion closely questions callers. Interviewers are strictly barred, in striking contrast to Carol’s accessibility before the Home Office order. M. Take Jonescu to-day attributed the cause of the whole trouble to a newspaper interview in which Carol said: “The time has come to strike.” M. Jonescu said that the “interview should never have been given. It immediately drew publicity to the Prince's movements.” It is understood that the Home Office will make no further move at the week-end, but wait and see whether Carol is fit to travel in the next two or three days.
