SATURDAY’S’ GAMES

Playing at League Park on Saturday Newtown were lucky in snatching a twopoint victory from a Hutt team not at full strength. Bad tackling, and poor following up by Newtown, and a number of missed opportunities by Hutt accounts for the low scoring. Both teams showed a lack of finish, which was compensated for by the willingness displayed. For Hutt Balks, the Bowen brothers, Puketapu, and Jones played well, and Crewther, Murphy, Green, and Mcßandall were prominent for Newtown. In the Petone v. Albion game, the score gives no indication of the relative merits of the teams. Petone, a more balanced team won by combination and. a brilliant run on the part of W. Scorringe.. Slavin came out as a goal kicker, converting two trios. Chell -and Greer were the pick of a good set of forwards. For Albion, Hampton, a late Canterbury League representative, shone, but. showing anticipation and displaying initiative that deserved better results. Ol her plare s s ln the picture were W. and J.
