RESULTS OF COUNTY MATCHES

HEAVY SCORING (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) London, Slay 11. Details of play in county cricket matches are as follow:—• Surrey, first innings 418 (Barling 158, Daily 80); Gloucestershire, first innings 488 for seven wickets (Dipper 59, Hammond 185 not out, B. Lyon 131). Glamorgan, first innings 128, second innings 294 for four wickets (Riches 110’not out); Lancashire, first innings 394 for eight wickets, declared (Watson 104, Hallows 101, Makepeace 57, E. Tyidesley 70). For Lancashire Macdonald took six wickets for 38 runs.

Worcestershire, first innings 402 (Williams 76 not out, Root 64); Yorkshire, first innings 393 for five wickets (Holmes 88, Leyland IGG not out). Middlesex, first innings, 471 for six wickets, declared (Hendren 157, Hearne 233 not out); Somerset, first innings 376 (Young 66, White 65, Ingle 117). In their second innings Middlesex made 10 runs without loss.

Cambridge University, first innings, 402 for eight wickets, declared (Robins 69, M. Turnbull 169, Seabrook 108); Sussex, first innings 352 (Sellar 84. Matthews 78). In their second innings Cambridge lost two wickets for IS runs.

Kent, first innings 499 (Ashdown 58, Colley 100, Cazalet 150, Hardinge 152 not out); Oxford University, first innings 21G (Crawley 112), and, following on, 141 for four wickets.

Lancashire, second innings 107 for no wickets (Watson 50, Hallows 51). Kent won by ten wickets. Oxford University, second Innings 346 (Garland Wells 128, Hillwood 64, Freeman taking six wickets for 119). Kent, second innings 6G for no wickets (Hardinge 51). Gloucester, first Innings 544 (Hammond not out 205). Surrey, second innings 304 for six wickets (Hobbs 124, Sandham 53, Shepherd not out 55). The match was drawn.

Yorkshire first innings, 560 for six wickets, declared (Leyland 247, Rhodes ■lOO not out); Worcester, second faningg 203 for three wickets (Higgins 101, Wright 71). The match was drawn.

Middlesex, second innings. 198 for six wickets, declared, (Hearne 97 not out, White taking four wickets for 77); Somerset, second Innings, 145 for five wickets (Ingle 100 not out). The match was drawn.

Cambridge University, second innings, 215 for four wickets, declared (Longrigg. 84 not out); Sussex, second innings, 192 for four wickets (J. Parks 65, Weasley 53). The match was drawn. (United Service.) (Rec. May 13, 5.5 p.m.)

London, May 11. The scoring in the county matches ended to-day was among the heaviest recorded. The aggregates ranged from 2266 for twenty-six wickets in the Sur-rey-Gloucester match, to 999 for twentyeight in the Lancashire-Glamorgan match. Altogether 7913 runs were scored, for 179 wickets, averaging over 44 per wicket. There were twenty-three centuries, including three exceeding 200. The long spell of dry weather made the wickets bard and fast. ESSEX v. WEST INDIES ' (Australian Press A^sn. —United Service.), London, May 11. In the match, -Essex v. West Indies, the home team compiled 369 (Douglas 53. Russell 147). The tourists replied with 245 for six wickets (Challenor 62). (Rec. May 13, 5.5 p.m.) London, May 11.
