MOUNTEDS LEAVE FOXTON.

Foxton, May 11.

I After spending two weeks in Foxton engaged in military training, the Mounted Rifles broke camp on Friday morning and left by special train for their homes. The camp was very successful, despite the somewhat inclement weather experienced during the early part of last week. On Tuesday an “at home” was held, which was attended by the local public. A sports programme was arranged by the men, which resulted as follows: —Wheelbarrow race: R. C. Ferguson and B Clapham (C. Squadron), 1; W. Young and D. Farmer and A. T. Blair and R. Downing (tie), 2. Donkey race: R. Clark and R. P. Fraser, 1; R. C. Ferguson and B. Clapham, 2. One mile: G. W. Sheppard (headquarters), 1; C. Robertson (headquarters), 2;

C. Barley (B Squadron), 3. N.C.O.’s tug-of-war: Sergeant-Majors defeated Quartermaster-Sergeants and Sergeants defeated Sergeant-Majors. Squadron tug-of-war: C Squadron A (Sergeant Broome’s team) defeated Headquarters; C Squadron B defeated B Squadron; C Squadron A defeated C. Squadron B. Tug-of-war on horseback: Corporal J. Moore’s team (Troopers Thurston, Rowe and Craig). Wrestling on horseback: Lance-Corporal K. Ward’s team
