0 TOWN AND COUNTRY Miss Violet Hutchinson, “Brancepeth,” Masterton, has left for a trip to the United States, England and the Continent.

Mr. and Mrs. W. 11. Jackson have returned to Masterton from Wellington.

Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Andrew, “Awanui,” Masterton, are among the passengers on the Marama for Sydney. Miss Margaret McKay, of Napier, has been staying with Mrs. J. Perry, “Brentwood,” Masterton. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, Picton, are staying with Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Burt, at Featherston.

The Masterton Sketch Club is very well represented at the annual exhibition of the Wellington Sketch Club. The wedding took place on Wednesday at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. James, Wangaehu, Masterton, of Cordelia, eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. Woolf, to Mr. Arthur Batchelar, of Palmerston North. The bride wore a French frock of bois de rose over pink satin, with hat to match. She was attended by her sister, Miss Josephine Woolf, who was attired in greenringed velvet and georgette, appliqued with roses, and hat to tone. Mr. David Munro, of Palmerston North, acted as best man. The bride travelled in an ensemble suit of navy crepe de chine, with hat to match. A handsome set of stone martin furs completed her attire. At. St. John’s Church, Featherston, on Wednesday, Elizabeth Nancy, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Charles, of Featherston, was married to Adrian Thomas, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. David Loney, of Dunedin. The bride wore ivory georgette and silver lace, with silver shoes. The bridal veil was a gift from her aunt, Mrs. Ward, of Christchurch. The bride was attended by her only sister, Dorothy, who was attired in apricot crepe de chine and gold lace. Mr. J. Donald, of Gore, Southland, acted as best man. The bride’s travelling frock was of saxe blue ■ repp, with blue hat, while she wore a fur coat, the gift of her grandmother, Mrs. Saunders, of Martinborough. Mr. and Mrs. T. Goodson, who have been spending a holiday in Auckland, have returned to their home in Taranaki.

Mrs. E. Astill, of Wellington, is a visitor to Palmerston North. Mr. and Mrs. Matthews, of Patea, are. spending a few days in Wellington.

Miss Elaine Wall, of Kairanga, is spending a few days in Wellington. Miss Ryan, of North Auckland, is visiting friends in Waipawa. Mrs. Young has returned to Dunedin after a visit to her daughter, Mrs. John Murray, of Palmerston North. Miss F. Walker, daughter of Mr. H. Walker, Levin, is making satisfactory progress after her recent operation. Miss A. Murison, of Wellington, is at present in Palmerston North. Miss Ediued, of Pahiatua, has been elected one of the committee of the New Zealand Women Teachers’ Association. Mrs. W. J. Hardham (Wellington) and her sister, Mrs. R. Mintoft, are at present in Palmerston North. Miss Drummond, matron of the District Hospital, Waipukurau, has been granted a month’s sick leave. Miss N. Prior is the guest of Mrs. W. Hunter Will, Palmerston North.

Colonel and Mrs. A. Batchelor, who were recently married, have taken up their residence at Linton.

The engagement is announced of Ida, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Cleland, of Feilding, to Reginald Mervin, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Wildbore, of Pohangina. Mrs. Hyland (Nelson) is a visitor to Palmerston North.

Sister Anderson, who for the past six years has been attached to the staff of the Palmerston North Hospital, has been compelled to hand in her resignation owing to a breakdown in health. Mr. and Mrs. L. Laurenson, of Palmerston North, are visitors to Taihape for the week-end.

The death occurred on Thursday last of Mrs. Annie Jane Mathieson, of Terrace End, Palmerston North, in her 64th year. Deceased was highly respected by all who knew her. She leaves a widower and family of two sons and four daughters, the sons being Messrs. Edward Mathieson (Auckland) and Bert Mathieson (Waipukurau), and the daughters Mesdames G. Havendale (New Plymouth) and G. Kerr (Palmerston North), and Misses Winnie and Ada Mathieson (Palmerston North). MADAME MENERE’S COUNTRY TOUR. Having finished her Wellington season, where record business was done, Aladame Menere and Co., Ltd., commence their country tour shortly. The exhibition of magnificent Russian and Canadian furs will commence in Masterton about the end of May, after which all other towns will be visited. Ladies are strongly advised to refrain from purchasing a new fur until their arrival, as prices and quality are better than ever this year.—Advt.
