ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

TO-DAY’S GAMES. With the progress of the local Soccer competitions, improved form is being shown, and in the matches set down for decision this afternoon the play should be of an excellent standard. Interest in the senior A grade is very keen, and with such strong contenders for honours as Marist and Diamonds meeting each other to-day there should be a large following at the Basin Reserve. This game is expected to be one of the best contested to date. Diamonds are as yet unbeaten and Marist hare only lost one point—in the opening game of the season, to Petone. Both teams will be at lull strength. The match between the old rivals"Y.M.C.A. and Thistle on No. 2 ground promises to be keen and interesting. Early arrivals will be provided with’good entertainment in the curtain-raisers between Hutt and South 'Welllugton and teams from Marist Newtown and Thorndon fourth and sixth divisions respectively. On the Petone Recreation another good programme is offered, the main item of which is the meeting between Seatoun and Petone. At Hutt the local eleven is down to play South Wellington, an event which In the past has always provided exciting incidents and keen rivalry.
