WEEK-END ACCIDENTS

BUSY TIME FOR FREE AMBULANCE A number of accidents occurred in Wellington during the week-end. As the result of being struck by a swing on Saturday morning a four-year-old child, Nancy Mclntosh, of 4 Knights Road, Lower Hutt, had to be taken to the Hospital suffering from a fractured right thigh. Suffering from Shock. While riding a motor-cycle along Customhouse Quay at about noon on Saturday, J. Berkly, a carpenter, collided with another motor-cycle outside the Maritime Buildings. He was attended to by the Free Ambulance and taken to his home, Wilton Road, suffering from shock. Fell Off Ladder. John Rider, a labourer, who resides in Wallace Street, fell off a ladder ■while working on the D.l.C.’s new building, Lambton Quay, on Saturday afternoon. He was found to be suffering from concussion and from injuries to his head and face. The Free Ambulance took him to the Hospital. Foot Injured. While working at the Atlantic Oil Company’s works, Kaiwarra, on Saturday afternoon, A. Stopforth, a labourer, received a punctured wound ou his left foot through running a nail into it. After receiving medical attention he was removed to his home at Lower Hutt. Injuries to Back. Injuries to his back were sustained by F. H. Blanchard, a labourer, who ■was struck by a falling pipe while working at the Atlantic Oil Company’s works, Kaiwarra, on Saturday afternoon. He was attended to by the Free Ambulance and taken to his home, 60 Cambridge Terrace. Thigh Fractured. Mrs. H. Mankelow, 84 Washington Avenue, fractured her right thigh on Saturday afternoon, as the result of a fall. She was taken to the Hospital by the Free Ambulance. Footballer Injured. E. P. Walker, 139 Marine Parade, Seatoun, fractured his right ankle while playing Rugby football with the Poneke intermediate team at Lower Hutt on Saturday afternoon. He was taken to his home, but had to go to the Hospital later. Motor-cyclist Injured. On Saturday afternoon F. Chapman, a postman, residing at 27 Everton Terrace, was' riding his motorcycle along the Evans Bay Road, when he went over a ten-foot bank. The Free Ambulance took him to the Hospital suffering from concussion and abrasions to his head and neck. Douglas Low, a clerk, 27 Everton Terrace, who was riding behind Chapman, suffered from concussion and received injuries to his head and right shoulder and numerous small wounds on his hands. He also was taken to the Hospital. Motor-cars Collide. At midnight on Saturday a collision took place between two motor-cars at Lower Hutt, resulting in E. McVicker, of la, Hutt Road, Lower Hutt, being taken to the Hospital suffering from a fractured lower jaw and wounds on his face.
