AUSTRALIAN TEAM’S MOVEMENTS
ARRANGEMENTS FOR ACCOMMODATION
(Australian Press Association.)
(Bee. May 6, 5.5 p.m.) London, May 5. The Australian Olympic team will arrive on June 14 and will stay at Onslow Court Hotel, in a quiet area at South Kensington, within ten minutes of Hyde Park. This is as central as possible for training purposes. Captain Vicary Horniman says it has been difficult to arrange accommodation for the team in which so many sports are represented. He is especially anxious to avoid too many hard pavements for walking exercise. Hi) says the cyclists will probably train at Herne Hill, the athletes at Stamford Bridge, and the swimmers at various clubs in London. There is no shortage of gymnasium facilities. The team will leave for Amsterdam on July IG, where accommodation has been arranged an hour’s journey from the stadium at a private hotel which was formerly the residence of a member of the Prussian nobility. The Australians have the hotel almost to themselves. Park-like grounds afford every adjunct for developing physical condition in pleasant surroundings. Private charabancs will convey the athletes and swimmers to the stadium, where they will practice, ’ but Pearce, the sculler, will have to go to Amersterdam to practice on the canal where the Olympic races will be rowed. Only two rowers will be allowed to practise at the same time.
