WEEK-END RUNS The Olympic Harriers’ Club held a novice race from the Lyall Bay bathlnc sheds ou Saturday. There was a good attendance of runners. The trail used was along the beach for about a mile, over the old road across to the golf-house, past Kongotai at the back of the college, up Cook Street and down to the end of Frcyberg Street. Thee race resulted in a win for Tasker, IGmin. 35scc„ with W. Taylor, IGmin, -lOsec., second, and ,T. Chandler, ITmin. 46sec., third) Fastest time was put up by Tutty, IGmin. ICsec. Tasker's time was the second fastest, and AV, Taylor’s third. The winner took thee lead from the entl of the sand, and was not challenged. Taylor and Chandler were close together until they reached Freyberg Street when Taylor went ahead, leaving his partner some 30 yards behind at the finish. Tasker won by about 50 yards from Tavlor. The timekeepers were Messrs. L. Lovell and J. Preston, with Mr. L. Bond as handicapperBROOKLYN CLUB. The Brooklyn Harriers held their run from Mr. F. Willis's residence on tho Hutt Road. The trail, laid by L. Tamblyn and S. Willis, went up the Hutt Road and as far as the Koro Koro reservoir. There it turned to the left and led sharply down the hill, and followed thee valley down on to the main Hutt Road by the Woollen Mills. A run-in, over the last few hundred yards, resulted in a win for H. Flint, with T. Cachemaille and T. Thomson in second and third places respectively. Thirty-one runners turned out. Two packs were formed, under the charge of G. C. Sherwood (captain) and M. Walls (deputy-captain). After the run the members were entertained at afternoon tea by Mrs. S. Willis, thanks being tendered by the club captain, HUTT VALLEY CLUB. The Hutt Valley Club held a novice race over a three-mile course, starting in the Hutt Park. S. Sanders, S. Andrews, and R. Kent laid the trail, which led out on to tho road and up past the Maori Cemetery. From there it went along the beach, through the pine trees on to the Waiwetu Hoad, taking an eastern turn across the paddocks by the new RailwayWorkshops, and then home to the Park. A. Gardener was first away, and maintained his lead for about half a mile. E. Lewis then took the lead, and gradually drew away, to win comfortably by about ■lOO yards. His time with handicap (4 min,), was 22min. 2Csec. J. Lawrence, who filled second place, with 3min. 30sec. handicap, registered 23min. 32sec„ and K. Downes, 4min. handicap,, was close up with 23mln. 40scc. third. J. Ballantyne virtual scratch-man off Imin. 30 sec., made fastest time, 21mln. 30sec. The remainder of the pack, which was not eligible for the novice race, held a run over the same course as the novice runners used, except that it turned off at Leighton Avenue and led through Gear Island to finish at Hutt Park. Officials for the day were:—Starter, Mr. H. Sanders; handicapper, Mr. N. Craig; and judges, Messrs. K. G. Freeman, D. Dome and A. Hadley. The lady harriers, six in number, held a run over the course used by the novice runners. The pack was in charge of Mrs. V. Smith. WELLINGTON CLUB. The Wellington Club held its weekly run from Island Bay. Au excellent trail was laid by C. Cooper and H. Wickham, which led along the ridges towards Brooklyn, down Happy Valley Road, and along the beach road to Island Bay, a distance of some six miles. The run in .was held over the last 400 yards. In an exciting finish, A. Hlvon headed W. Lyall, with R. Newson close up third. The next run will be the novice race, from Mr. Clark’s residence, Miramar. SCOTTISH CLUB. For the Scottish Club’s run, Payton and Costello laid an excellent trail of about six miles from Kelburn .tramshed to Mount Wakefield, via Wilton Bush, and along the Karori Hoad home. Twenty-seven started in the 300 yard sprint, which • resulted: L. Boyes, 1; R. Waterhouse, 2; G. Zander, 3; and K. A. Ward, 4, with the rest of the field closely bunched. The Scottish Club’s attendance to date is a record, and great credit is due to the officials aud organisers. Next week-end will see the first race'of the season, namely, the Novice Handicap. The distance will be two miles and a half, and the event will take place at Lyall Bay at 2.30 p.m.
