The Postmaster-General (Hon. W. Nosworthv) left Wellington last night for Ashburton. He will open the Amuri show next week. The Minister of Education (Hon. R. zV Wright) arrived at Tauranga yesterday from Thames.' He visited the school in the afternoon and addressed the children. He was to receive a deputation last night regarding the need for <1 technical high school, and will leave for Auckland this morning — Press Assn.

Sir Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C., arrived in Wellington yesterday from Auckland. Messrs G. Fruin (Auckland), L. R. Partridge and F. Campbell (Wellington) have been appointed as delegates from the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation to the National Industrial Conference.

Air H Smith, governing director of C? Smith, Ltd., Cuba Street, who accompanied bv Alts. Smith, will leave next month on an extensive business tom of the United States and Canada, and Inter England and the Continent, was farewelled by members of the staff on Wednesday evening. Air Coker, the manager, on behalf of the staff, presented Mi- Smith with a gold cigarette vase and fountain pen, and to Mrs Smith he presented a crocodile handba" He wished them a very pleasant vovage and the best of health Air. Smith suitably responded. During the evening musical items were contributed bv Air and Airs. Watson, and Alessrs. Haig, Bray, and Tarrant. Mr R T. Smith, of Napier, has been’appointed Government representative on the Transport Appeal Board for No 8 motor-omnibus district, in succession to Mr. F. N. Thompson. Mr T Salek, J.P., has been authorised to exercise jurisdiction in the Children’s Court, Wellington.
