The news that the freezing companies in Canterbury have made au all-round advance of Id. per lb. in the prices paid for lambs will be welcome news to farmers, who have been late this season in getting their lambs ready for the works (states the Wainiate “Advertiser”). The late spring and rains ’in the earlier part of the summer kept the feed very soft, and lambs grew, but did not fatten well. The fat lamb season will consequently be late, and killings are likely to go on well into the winter.
