RAILWAY ROUND TRIP
PICNIC IN MANAWATU GORGE. Tho popularity of the Railway .Department's cheap excursions was again in evidence on Sunday when a large number of .people made the trip from Lambton to Thorndou, via the Manawatu Gorge. Leaving Lambton at 8 a.m. the run over the Rimutakas and through the Wairarapa was very interesting, and the beauty of the Gorge greeted the passengers at 12.52 p.m. The afternoon was spent in picnicking, bathing, etc., at this delightful spot, and the efforts of the Department in arranging refreshments, etc., met with much appreciation. The general arrangements were favourably commented on by all who joined tho excursion.
