QUEENSLAND SERUM TRAGEDY
EVIDENCE BEFORE ROYAL COMMISSION Brisbane, February 16. Before the Serum Commission, Dr. Elkington, Federal Director of Tropical Hygiene, said he did not issue the Federal laboratories’ warning circular regarding the use of serum, because he distinctly understood from a letter received from the laboratories that each carton would contain a circular Witnesses gave evidence that they had seen cartons which did not contain the warning. Dr. ’ Williaijis deposed that a batch oi cartons he had used contained no warning. As a matter of fact be’ was not aware it was highly dangerous to use the serum after the rubber cap had been pierced. It was a terrific shock to him to hear that such a method might have fatal effects.
