PAHIATUA NOTES

Pahiatua, January 11. A meeting of the executive of the Pahiatua Swimming .Club was held last night, when ..there were present: Messrs. J. A. Walsh, who presided, D. W. Wilton, W. R. Richardson, J. Gainey, H. K. Smith, F. Guinness, A. Eager, W. Rutherford, A. C. Timms, A. J. Fairweather, It. Oxley, L. Itussoll, A. Evans,, and G- H. Hodd. The president reported that the .Borough Council had voted the club a grant of £3O at its last meeting as a recognition of the club’s activities in the interests of the children, and the fact that the council had been relieved of the responsibility of controlling the baths as a result of the club taking them over when there appeared every danger of the baths being closed. The speaker stated that the public was appreciating the work of the club, as was evident by the many donations which were coming to band. It was reported that the recent “gift shop” had realised over £l3, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the organiser (Mr. W. R. Richardson) and the ladies who had assisted him. It was decided to hold the opening carnival on the first night of tlwe local races, February 1. The programme of events which was drawn up' includes the 220 yards Manawatu Centre championship. Officials were appointed as follow:—Judges: Swimming. Messrs. L. Russell, W. Rutherford, F. Gtiinness; diving, Messrs. A. Eager and G. S R. starter, Mr. A. Evans; check starter, Mr. R. Oxley; handicapper, Mr. A. Eager; timekeeper, Mr. G. Oxley; call steward. Mr. G. H. Hoe; treasurer, Mr. W. R. Richardson. Mr. P. Delahunty, of the Otago University. is spending his vacation at his home, Konini. The annual Makomako tennis tournamen attracted a large entry, the principal event, the combined doubles, being won by Mis s F- Ness and Mr. W. G.

Mr.° J. Sergeant, of Makoinako.« is an initiate of the Tararua Private Hospital Miss R. Ridgley, head teacher at the Makomako School, is spending her aniiual. vacation in Auckland. Mr. N. Fox returned homo to-day after a holiday in Stratford. A party, consisting of Messrs. E. Scandrett. A W. Bisset. F Moore, and p Tulloch, left by car this morning for Wellington to attend tiro wool sale Mr. and Mrs. J- O’Donovan. of Wellington. who have been spending a holiday trout fishing at Makuri, have 16turned home. w Mr. W. Hull, of Palmerston North, is on a visit to Pahiatua.
