AMATEUR ATHLETICS

WELLINGTON .CENTRE MEETS A meeting of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night Mr. A. C. Kitto presiding. The Wellington Centre was granted permission to hold a meeting on Saturday, February 25. On the motion of Mr. D. Paris, it was decided that all relay races for the Oates Baton should be scratch events. With a view to placing amateur athletics and cycling on a better footing in the Hutt Valley, tho three Valley clubs (Hutt, Petone, and Hutt Valley Harriers) held a conference, and elected a management committee to go further into the matter. This committee recently decided to hold a series of evening meetings for local talent i.nly, in the hope that local runners and cyclists might be brought out, thereby giving them the necessary experience to run and ride at the big meetings. A. silver cup will be given to the runners, and also to the cyclists, the points to count as follow: 5 for first, 3 for second, 1 for third. The clubs whose tnemb/rs gain the most points at the end of the season are to hold the cups, A permit to run amateur events at the Takaka Caledonian sports on Wednesday, February 22, was granted.
