IRISH FREE STATE
MINISTRY GIVEN FREE HAND
NO INTERFERENCE FROM ENGLAND Rugby, January 9. The President of the Executive Council of the Irish Free State during the week-end gave a dinner in honour of Mr. Tim Healy, first Governor-General of the Free State, who is about to retire. President Cosgrave, proposing Mr. Healey’s health, said that the appointment of an Irish democrat to be their fit st Governor-General was a proof of the essential democracy of their new institutions. Mr. Healy had sustained his position with high dignity and exalted courage, and it was with deep feelings of regret that the Executive Council had .granted his petition to be relieved from the' cares of State. In reply, Mr. Healy said that in his years of 'office the English had never interfered to the extent of a tittle or a scintilla in anv Irish matter. They had left the Irish' Ministry absolutely free, untouched, and unadvised, a tribute to them that should not be left unpaid. Mr Healv declared his faith in Ireland’s happy future.—British Official Wireless.
