The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Chamber of Commerce was held on January 4, the president (Mr. S. H. Rasmussen) presiding over a good attendance of members. The New Zealand Railways’ traffic superintendent wrote stating that repairs to the trucking yards at the Eketahuna railway station had been attended to in accordance with the chamber’s representations. The Radio Broadcasting Company of New Zealand wrote, in reply to an inquiry, that it was quite willing to broadcast an Eketahuna programme from 2YA, Wellington, provided suitable arrangements could be made in nect to a land line. The president sT'ced that the idea had emanated from his observations abroad, and he considered it would be quite practicable to relay a programme from Eketahuna. He felt sure there would be no difficulty Whatever in arranging a programme of an entertaining and instructive nature. Members expressed themselves as being favourably disposed towards the idea, and a committee was set up to go further into the matter to make the necessary arrangements. The condition of the main street in Eketahuna was mentioned at the meeting by members, who complained that the layer of loose metal was a great handicap and inconvenience to pedestrians. It was decided to call the attention of the Borough Council to the matter, with a request that an endeavour be made to alleviate the trouble. Two new members were elected to the chamber. A Queen carnival, for the purpose of raising funds for improvements to the Domain sports ground, is now in full swing. Three Queens have been selected, as followHockev Club, Miss Rene Brunton; Sports Club, Miss Dons Dearie; Football Club, Mrs. Harold Duff. The committees of the respective Queens are working energetically, and manv sratherings are being arranged in the 'interests of the candidates. The carnival will be brought to a close at the end of this month, and it is expected there will be a substantial fund available for ground improvements by that time. In accordance with the unanimous decision of the electors on the half-holi-dav question at the poll held recently,’ the Eketaliuna shopkeepers have reverted to Wednesday closing in heu of Saturday. The change has already been made, and Eketahuna once more has its late night on Saturday.
