RONGOTEA ITEMS

During the Christmas and New Year holidays a great many of the residents of Rongotea . took their pleasures away from the town,, which was all but deserted. However, most have now returned. The farming community is at present engaged harvesting the hay crops, which this year have proved to be exceptionally heavy. The weather has been ideal for this work, but a shower would be welcomed by many to freshen up the feed, which is beginning to harden, and in consequence the cows are going off in milk slightly. The traffic through the town to the seaside resorts has been exceptionally heavy of late, and the .roads are showing signs of this hard usage. Mr. AL H. White and party spent the holidays on a car trip to Taupo and back. , , . -. , Mr J. C. Glover and family visited Wellington, returning after the New Mr. A. Coward, of Auckland, is at present the guest of Mrs. 11. Fieldhouse, . , „ Mr. and Mrs. J. Pool and family, of Napier, are at present the guests of Mrs. W. J. Amies. Miss J. Bower is spending a short holiday with Mrs. T. Trotter. Bulls. Miss M. Bower and Miss M. Rose are spending a fortnight with friends in Christchurch. Mr. H. H. Hunt, his daughter, Miss E. Hunt, and Miss E. White, are spending a short holiday at Rotorua. Miss C. George, Pongaroa, is at present tlie guest of Mrs. C. Liggins.
