PAHIATUA NOTES

Pailiatua. January 9. The marriage of Alice Helen, second daughter of Air and Mrs. H. Holmes Miller, to John Perry, elder son of Mrsand the late W. E. C. Tylee, at St. Peter’s Anglican Church last week, aroused a considerable amount of interest, both families being well known in the district. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. G W. Fenwick, and the organist Aliss Aladdever. After the ceremony the many guests were entertained at the home of the bride's parents, afternoon tea being served under a marquee erected on the lawn. The Rev. F. and Mrs. McDonald left this morning for a two weeks' holiday in New Plymouth, where they will be the guests of Airs. L. Alaitland Morrison. Air Hi H. Godfrey, one of the oldest residents, of the district, is seriously ill. Three bowls rinks will visit Eketahuna on Wednesday next to play an inter-club match. The local club has also challenged for the Oxley' Cup, which will be played on the same day. The Pahiatua Horticultural and Industrial Society has decided to hold its next annual show on February 21. Mr. S. Austin, of Auckland, is on a visit here. He is the guest of Air. and Mrs. G. Oxley. A 'match in the junior and senior pairs bowls ’competition was played on Saturday between Day and Hewat and O’Connor and Chatwin. The former pair won rather comfortably. In the senior pairs contest Hewat and Walsh beat Chatwin and I’orteous. The ATayor (Mr. J. D. C. Crewe) and Mrs. Crewe, accompanied by Air. and Mrs. L. T. Herbert, are on'holiday in the Rotorua district. Tlie nominations received for the Pahiatua races, to be held on February 1 and 2, exceed those of last year.

Sirs. T. Bundle, of Wellington, is on. a visit here. She is the guest of Air. and Airs. H. I'. Perry. Aliss East has returned home after six months enjoyable holiday in Sydney.
