MR. AMERY’S VIEWS
HOW TO BRING SUCCESS TO TREATY
(Rec. January 7, 5.5 p.m.) Victoria, B.C.* January 6. Discussing the Canada-Australia trade pact on his arrival here to-day, Mr. Leopold Amery -predicted that the preference granted to Australian dried fruit would be beneficial to both countries. “I do feel, however,”, he said, “that the success of the treaty would be greater by far if it were possible for Canada to purchase her dried fruits from Australia instead of from California, and that Australia should purchase lumber from Canada rather than from the United States.”
Mr. Amery proposes consulting the various provincial Governments in Canada. on an assisted family immigration scheme. He stressed, the point .that it was very necessary that Ministers of the various Empire Governments ’should visit other sections of the .
