LYALL BAY CARNIVAL ENDS
BIG ATTENDANCES ON SATURDAY The Lyall Bay Carnival, which lias been staged on the Recreation Ground during the past two weeks, ended its session on Saturday night. The gala was well attended throughout. It was held with the object of erecting a children’s play-area iu the district. Some time ago the Lyall Bay Progressive Association applied to the City Council for a portion of the Reserve to be set aside for a children’s playground. The council acceded to the request and proceeded with their part of the work, which has been completed. The association was faced with the, difficulty of raising funds and started their financial drive by holding the carnival, the results of which have been very satisfactory. It is intended to raise £lOOO, and to equip the area with the most modern appliances available. The committee responsible for the carnival is comprised of representatives of the Lyall Baj’ Progressive Association, and the Alaranui and Lyall Bay Surf Clubs. This bodv will not be disbanded, but _ will continue in office for future activities. There is also a ladies’ committee, which has rendered valuable assistance.
The long-hair competition attracted over 30 entrants, and the baby show, held on Saturday, had 53 contestants. Results Baby -.how: Under 3 months, JackTracy’; under 6 months, Douglas Patton; under 12 months, Joyce Thompson; under 18 months, Colleen Brown.
