There are three kinds of hospitals in Britain—voluntary, municipal which are the isolation hospitals —and poor-law infirmaries. Goats are perhaps the easiest of all animals to train, according to one expert. They possess the quality of being able to imitate human actions.

Underground Mount Eden is being widely explored by reason of the network of tunnels that have been driven, and are being driven, to complete the drainage reticulation of that district (states the Auckland “Star”). It has resulted in the discovery that Mount Eden must have been a very unruly old hill in some prehistoric time, and that the lava flow spread out over a very wide area. Much solid rock has been encountered, but the modern popper drill makes a light task of even that obstruction, and the work has been done at an extremely quick rate. Excavation has disclosed a solid rock bottom at moderate depth, which perhaps explains why the area has been unfailinly flooded during past winters.
