Alartoil, January f>. The Alarton Park lighting queen carnival will commence in earnest on Saturday aud will continue one week, concluding on Saturday, January 14 with an evening gala gathering in the Alarton Park. This will be preceded by a monster decorated procession from the Junction through the town, headed by the Marton Brass Band and Hunterville Pipe Band, and at the park there will be atheltic events, competitions and side shows. The official switchiug-on of the lights will also take place and at the conclusion there will be the crowning of the successful queen. The funeral of the late Air. Ronald McDonald, which took place yesterday afternoon, was of a typical Scottish nature, the large number of Scots present including Mr. A. G. Simpson (Chief of Rangitikei Scots Society). When the cortege left the Presbyterian Church it was headed by two members of the Hunterville Pipe Band (Pipe-Afajor A. Ross and Sergeant D. J. Abel), who played “The Land o’ the Leal,” and again at the graveside the pipers played appropriate dirges. Rev R. H. Catlierwood conducted.the burial service, while well-known Rangitikei Scots acted as pall-bearers.
