SHIPMENTS VALUED AT . £22,500,000 The Australian wool export season is now .at its peak (says the ‘'Sydney .Morning Herald" of December 27). Nearly half of the Australian clip has been shipped. Latest statistics available show that 1)17.597 bales, valued at about 422,505,429, have been lifted nt Australian ports for the United Kingdom and Continent since August. Although the foreign shipping companies have secured most of the largest individual consignments, British lines have lifted tho greater :>art of tho clip to date. Twelve British lines have secured 581,152 bales, worth 413,802.360, while the vessels of six foreign companies have taken 366.445 bales to the value of 48,703,069. The approximate amount of freight earned by the British vessels to date is 4871,728, and that of the foreign ships 4549,067. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line. Ltd., which has a fleet of speedy motor ships, is leading the field to a marked degree in regard to the quantity of wool secured for shipment. Nearly 161,000 bales have been exported by ships of this line. Vessels of the Nord deutscher Lloyd and the German-Aus tralian Line have lifted 108,654 bales. About 105,600 bales have been shipped by the Norwegian-Australia Line. The Federal Steam Navigation Co., Ltd., hag received 901,133 bales, and the Blue Funnel Line 83.023 bales. BUTTER AND CHEESE LONDON QUOTATIONS. London, January 5. The butter market is quiet but steady. Choicest salted Now Zealand, 160 s. to 1625. per cwt.; exceptionally good, 1645.; Australian, 158 s. to ICOs. Unsalted is plentiful and is bringing only about 2s. premium. The cheese market is quiet. New Zealand, 935. per cwt.; Australian, 925. SYDNEY WOOL SALES HARDENING TENDENCY FOR BETTER CLASSES. Sydney, January 6. Association wit! be held on the showgrounds, Dannevirke, on February 8 and 9. Entries close on January 25. The ram fair is to be held the day following the show, and the entries for this close on January 30. A verv attractive schedule has been arranged, and includes classes for lifrht horses, competitions, draugh horses, all breeds ot cattle, sheep, pigs, butter and cheese, home industries, and needlework.
