POLICE CASES. Mr. J. 11. Salmon, S.M., presided in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Patrick Darcy, who was charged with wilfully damaging electric light fittings valued at Al, the property of the N.Z. Government, was fined £2, and ordered to make good the amount of the damage. On a charge of drunkenness he was ordered to forfeit bis bail, 10s. "Ho really seems to have had no opportunities,” said the Magistrate when IVilliam Murphy, a laboui;ei, pleaded guilty to being a rogue aud a vagabond, with a previous conviction as an idle and disorderly person, with no visible means of support. Sub-Inspector Lander stated that Murphy was found asleep on a seat ou the reserve at the corner of Bowen and Molesworth Streets. He told the constable who arrested him that tie was destitute, and that he had only been discharged from prison on December 30, after serving a sentence of throe mouths. Accused was ordered to go to the Salvation Army Home until he found work, and was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within three months if called upon. A remand to January 11 was granted in the case of Alice Myra Mann, who was charged with stealing two gold rings valued at £4O, lhe property of Dorothy Greta Innes. On a" charge of breaking and, entering the counting house of the Wellington Croquet Club with intent to commit a crime therein, Sydney Charles Leckie was remanded to January 11. Donald Clark, a labourer, aged 25, admitted failing to report regularly under the terms of his release ou probation for theft in February last. Accused lias told that he would have to make full restitution, and was ordered to have his period of probation extended another twelve months
