HUTT ROAD SLIP

CLEARANCE. EXPECTED SOON

After several times hoping that the end of the Hutt Road clearance work was near at hand, and each time being disappointed, the city engineer’s department believes that total clearance is now in sight. The work has been protracted by the collapse of further earth as the big slip was cut back, and though it was originally believed that the face would be firm, the engineer in charge now doubts whether solid earth will be reached at all. The hillside is particularly bad here, and a big slip came down two years ago at practically the same point. However, the hill will be so well cut back bv the time the removal of the rubble' and earth is completed, that it is anticipated' that the spot will give little more trouble.
