FOXTON NOTES

Foxton, October 12. A committee meeting of the Foxton United Sports Association was held on Tuesday night, presided over by Mr. W. T. Jewell (president). Messrs. A. L. Milner and J. McKenzie were elected to the association. The quotation of the North British and Mercantile Association for insurance of £2OOO was accepted. Messrs. Pritchard and Parker were elected timekeepers, subject to consent. It was decided to notify Palmerston North by telephone of the weather conditions prevailing locally on the morning of the sports. Mr. <R. Bryant reported that the course was in excellent condition; but it would be necessary to engage a man for a few days to assist the caretaker to erect the enclosure for the machines. The secretary reported that nominations were coming in freely, one having been received from as far afield as Whangarei. The erection of the lap scoring board •was left to Messrs? Christie and Thomson. It was decided to install a "buzzer” in the enclosure, to' notify riders as to closing time of nominations. A friendly visit was paid to the Loyal Toston Lodge on Tuesday night by members cf tho Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows, P.G. Bro. Bell, P.G. Bro, Eachler. V.G. BroFramjee, Bro. Lankshear, Bro. C. Lyford (publicity officer), and Bro. Christensen (District Grand Master) representing the Palmerston North lodge. The visiting members were accorded lodge honours, to which they suitably responded. During the evening the Grand Master addressed the members on matters relative to the order, at the conclusion of which he was accorded a vote of thanks. At the conclusion, of business the lodge adjourned for harmony and supper was served. • Mr. and Mrs, W. Kirkland returned to Foxton on Wednesday after spending a holiday in Honolulu. Mrs. Moore and Miss J. Ross represented the Foxton Gird Guides’ Committee at the conference in Wellington this won a five-mile cycle road raxie on Wednesday from scratch, with P TTn-nonr (20eec.) second, Martin Qo third, and I*. King fourth.
