Sir, —Apropos the alleged farmers’ objection to increase in the tariff upon the wearing apparel. Upon, the basis of self-containment as a national ideal, permit me to cite the seemingly unanswerable dictum of President Lincoln “When you import goods, you get the goods and the foreigner gets the money. When you manufacture those goods you have both the goods and the money?' Which conserved purchasing power must needs, of course, benefit .every class of the community: presumably to the extinction of unemployment—l am, etc., “ECONOMY.” Wellington, October 13
