STREET NAMES
Sir, —lu your recent article on “Street Names,” by “F. 1.5. “Sydney” Street is wrongly spelt. It should be "Sidney” Street, as can be proved by all old records; and this was also the spelling on the old painted name-plate. The present error was brought about when the enamelled name-plate was put up some years ago. .1 think that in deference to the old settlers the correct spelling should be reverted to aud a new name-plate fixed up. »
It may interest “F. 1.5. to know that Staunton Avenue (off Nairn Street) was named by a resident chess-player after Staunton, the famous English chess champion and writer of the mid-rtine-teenth centurv.—l am, etc., BETA. Wellington, October 13.
