DUTY ON GRAMOPHONE RECORDS
BRITISH TO BE ADMITTED FREE
An amendment made to the Customs tariff by the House of Representatives vesterday provides that, after July 1 iiext, British-made gramophone records will be admitted to the Dominion duty free, white foreign makes will pay a duty of 20 per cent. In the meantime the British records wilt pay 20 per cent, and the foreign 4'o per cent Explaining the alteration, the Alin ister of Customs (Hon. W. D. Stewart) stated that over £20,000 would be involved by the remission. The amendment would not operate immediately, and that would give sufficient time to enable the necessary adjustment of stocks lo be made. Labour members expressed thanks to the Minister for his decision.
