PAYMENT OF PENSIONS
PROCEDURE THIS MONTH A promise' that endeavours will be made to have this month’s pensions paid out on Saturday, October 22, was made in the House of Representatives vesterday by the Minister in Charge of Pensions (Hon. G. J. Anderson). The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. H. E. Holland) pointed out that the usual pension dav, the 23rd, fell on a Sunday this month, and the next day was Labour Day, a general holiday. At the request of a number of returned soldiers he asked if the Minister would have arrangements made for this month’s pensions to be made payable on the previous Saturday instead of on the following Tuesday. “I think that is the usual custom when the 23rd of the month falls on a Sunday,” replied Dlr. Anderson. “However, I will have inquiries made, and if it is possible to make the payments on the Saturday that will be done.”
