Marton, October 11. Mr. D. Howden, accountant on the Marton staff of the Bank of Now Zealand, has received notice of his promotion to Pahiatua as manager. He will leave Marton in about a month’s time. An evening wedding was solemnised in the Presbyterian Church, Glasgow Street, Wanganui, on September 28, the contracting parties being Violet, .only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F Pettit, ot Hawera, and Percy Gordon, youngest son of Mr. W. Frampton, Hunteu-villo. The annual meeting of the Marton District Nursing League was held yesterday afternoon, the Mayor (Mr. F. Purnell) presiding over a large attendance. Owing to the withdrawal of the Government’s subsidy, the balance sheet disclosed a considerable loss on the year’s working, but the chairman of the Hospital Board attended the meeting and promised a subsidy from the board.
