LEVIN BRASS BAND

SATISFACTION AT PAST YEAR Levin, October 12. Gratification at the fact that the society bad had another successful year was expressed m the annual report of the Levin Brass Band, which was presented to the annual meeting recently, when the Mayor (Mr. T. Hobson) presided. Although the receipts for tire year under review were £22 10s. less than those for the previous year, this, in consideration of the state of the country generally, was highly satisfactory Ordinary revenue had shown an increase, but subscriptions and donations had shrunk by over £33. The bank overdraft, however, had been reduced by over £9l, and now stood at £166 16s. lid. The report expressed the opinion that during the coming year it should be possible, with a little extra effort on the part of all members and supporters of rhe band, to clear off the bank overdraft entirely. The report stated that the band had maintained its high musical standard, now consisting of 28 playing members. The learners’ class was still making good progress, and the supply of playing members was thus being kept up. Tlje report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the following officers elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr J. Linklater, M.P.; president, Mr. T Hobson; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Kebbell, W. Wilkinson, W. M. Clark, J. Rvder, E. Derhaiu, S. Worsfold, H. Walkley, E. H. Jones, K. Aitken, W. Noad, G. Ramsbotham, and E. J. Knight'; conductor, Mr. G. Lester; deputy-bandmaster, Mr. C. Heap. The following medals were presented to their winners:—Conductor Lester’s medal, for most improved player, T. Pickering; Mr de Malmanche’s medal,, for most improved player, R. Pickering; Mr. Worsfold’s medal, for most improved learner, K. Hook.
