“CONFERENCE REJOICES"

UNUSUAL I’ORM OF GREETING

An amusing interlude enlivened proceedings at the annual conference ot tho New Zealand Baptists’ Union at Wellington yesterday. When the secretary had read a list of those unable to attend the gttlhering and to whom it was suggested the conference should forward its greetings, Mr. A. F. Carey said he thought more care should be exercised in the wording of tho telegrams conveying the greetings. He then read the following telegram, sent to a Christchurch clergyman, by last year’s conference: "Rev. Smith, Baptist Manse, Spreydon.—Conference rejoice your absence and extend cordial greetings.—Lascelles,” Needless to say it was some little time before the ensuing laughter had' subsided.
