GIFT TO GEOLOGICAL SURVEY

A' gift which has considerable historical interest has been made to the New Zealand Geological Survey by Mrs. W. G. Mantell, of Wellington. It consists of a series of fossils and mineral specimens collected many years ago in the Dominion by Dr. Gideon Mantell, end is accompanied by two boxes of wood blocks which were used in the illustrations contained in some of Dr. Mantell’s books on geology. Dr. Mantell was the celebrated early geologist of New Zealand, and worked in the Dominion from 1830 onwards.
