EKETAHUNA NOTES

Tho Eketahuna Municipal Silver Band, under the conductorship of Mr. T. C. Deune, held a church paarde on Sunday morning last, members of the local friendly societies and other bodies participating. The band gave a number of fine selections en route through the streets to tho Anglican Church, where a service was conducted by the Rev. G. Watson, ALA. before a large congregation. The band accompanied the chosen hymns in fine tone and. its presence lent a most impressive air to the service. The death has occurred of Airs. L. Anderson, a highly respected resident of the town. The late Mrs. Anderson had been in indifferent health for some time past. She leaves a widower, Air. J. Anderson, a daughter (Miss AL L. Anderson) and a son (Air. F. E. Anderson), all residents of Eketahuna. The annual ball of the Alfredton branch of the Farmers’ Union was held last week at Alfredton and was well patronised. The hall was nicely decorated in native greenery and around tho walls wero exhibited some excellent specimens of reindeer heads Tho floor was in excellent order and the ball was in every respect a complete success. Messrs. McGovern and Algie acted as M.C.’s. r A lich-gate has been erected outside the war memorial grounds in Eketabuna. The foundation consists of rubble work and the roof of tiles. The gate has been donated by Miss A Anderson in memory of early settlers, and it provides a very appropriate approach to the war memorial rest room, whilst also adding to the dignified appearance of that, building. ~, m At the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute in Eketahuna over 60 members attended. Very keen interest was evinced in the paper hat making demons! fa ted by Mrs. Murray-Aynsley. Quite a number of members are still vorv busy with raffia or wool-worj; ijj preparation for competition at the forthcoming horticultural show. The membership now stands at 105. and the first annual meeting is to be held in November. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Houlbrooke, Lowes and Misses A. Anderson and Small, who dispensed afternoon tea provided by the members. Good business was iba stall.
