TWELVE MONTHS IN BUSINESS

A petition in bankruptcy has been filed by Alexander Alfred Jcsso Burling, of Masterton, contractor. Bankrupt’s total debts are £ll3 15s. 3d., and he has assets from book debts, £1 14s. Id., leaving a deficiency of £ll2 Is. 2d. There are no secured creditors. The chief unsecured creditors are Airs A. W. Westhead. £25. J. Billington, senr. (Alanaia) £l5, and Nurse L. J. 'Williams (Masterton) £lO. In hs personal statement bankrupt says that he commenced business as a contractor in October, 1926, prior to which he had been employed by the Borough Council at £4 per week. For the purpose of his business ho purchaser! from Levin and Co. materials to the value of £l2O, paying £6 on delivery and agreeing to pay £6 per month off the balance. Bankrupt had paid four or five instamlents during the eleven and a half months he was in business. Me took approximately £l5B. and out of that ho had to pay about £lO forfeeding and four guineas for shoeing hie horses. Ont of the balance of approximately £lOO he had to support bis wife and six children. His wife had been ill, and two of his children in hospital, so that bankrupt had incurred considerable expenses for doctors’ fees. He found that he could not carry on with his business as' he was getting further into debt. Levin and Co. took possessioh of his horses under their security, also judgments had been obtained against him by Westhead and Billington. The house he occupied was rented, and the furniture, over which there was no security, belonged to his wife. Bankrupt, had -been offered employment at £3 per week and found. A meeting of creditors called for this afternoon lapsed for want of a quorum.
