The coal operators and miners both believe tha the strike settlement, winch is effective throughout Illinois, is hkelyi to influence a settlement in other centres. Miners to the number of 72,000 return to work in New York and Illinois on the old wage scale,-but the siuation in Indiana, Ohio, lowa, and Missouri is unaffected. [The strike has lasted since April 1, when there was a general walk-out of union miners in the Middle West fields. Over 150,000 miners left work in the soft-coal regions with the expiration of the existing wage agreements at midnight on March 3L.J
