A striking contrast in the of pork required in New Zealand ami England was illustrated by Mr. D. J. Ross nt a meeting of the North Otago branch of tho Farmers’ Union (states tho “Timos”). Ho stated that of 7QO pigs offered on ono occasion at Addington, only 30 wore suitable for the London market. This was explained by tho British demand being for lean pork, whereas in New Zealand (ho demand was for heavy pigs. As evidence of tho sensitiveness of well-brod poultry, a poultry expert mentioned that on some of the big poultry farms in America bo had known tho hens to bo put off laying and to go into a moult as the result of seeing the man who regularly fed them in an oilskin coat on a wot day (says the Timaru “Herald”). In New Zealand he had seen the samo thing happen through fresh straw being put in tho scratching pern ‘ .
